A little girl,
A latchkey kid.
Caring for her siblings,
Longing to be seen.
She played the role,
Lost innocence in that part.
She stepped up to the plate,
Hit the ball out of the park.
She was smart but played dumb.
Needed protection but learned to bark.
She needed love but settled for praise.
Was light but hid in the dark.
She´s too shy... can´t catch a ball.
Smiles excessively... is too nice.
The teacher´s pet, a know-it-all.
Too much, and no one looked twice.
She never asked for help,
Pretending everything was okay.
She wanted badly to join the crowd,
But didn´t know how to play.
So she built a paradise in her head.
A world of lore and fantasy.
A place she´d visit from her bed,
Safe to roam... where she was free.
Inside that world, she found a tree.
Inside that tree, she built a fort.
Her very own retreat.
Inside that fort, she formed a bubble.
A magical shield from all the pain.
Sheltered and unafraid.
No masks, no camouflage,
No trying to hide her scars.
No roles to play, no grand facades...
Able to relax, let down her guard.
That bubble soon became her home.
The only place where she could be
Herself, in full authenticity.
But a bubble is not a home.
It is a crutch that keeps her safe
And stunts her growth.
I need to learn to trust.
To come out of my head.
Been inside for far too long.
